Animation in Powerpoint

This week we learned how to use many different types of animation in powerpoint. I learned how to make bullets exit my slide one by one which I though was very useful. I also learned how to do motion animation where we made a motion path with images from clipart. I put a picture into one of my slides then I made arrows and made the labels at the end of those arrows appear and disappear. I also learned how to create button trigger grouping which I could use to show one slide to my students ask them to fill in the blanks then click show answers and all the answers show on the slide.

What we learned this week relates to teaching standard
1a.) promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. This assignment would help a student's powerpoint stand out compared to others and also put animation to emphasize the student's creativity. I can use many of the things I learned this week to quiz my students in any subject that I teach and test their knowledge in powerpoint.

Here is a little video clip of some of the things I learned to do in powerpoint.

My Powerpoint

This week I worked on creating a powerpoint about College Football Statistics. The professor's outcomes for this assignment were "Student can create, download, upload, and archive a graphic image.Students will be able to publish presentations in a variety of formats. Students will be able to select appropriate digital formats for publishing." We used a website called Slideshare to upload our slideshow to the web. Here is a link to my PowerPoint
Here are some of the websites I recieved my information from:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics
http://www.footballbabble.com/football/college/facts/

This activity relates to teaching standard
1c) promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
It showed me that there are many differents tools to use to present information in a variety of ways. The students can learn ways to share information they find on the web to other srudents and their teachers in a unique way. This activity also gives the students the opportunity to add a creative touch to their work.

Map

In todays assignment everyone entered their addresses into a document where we shared our email addresses and then copied that document into a program that made a map of where everyone lives. The program that we copied the document into was called Batchgeo, this program then gave us our google map with everyones location.  Here is a link to the Google Map. which is also posted below.

Todays assignment applies to teaching standard

3a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.

If I taught this to my students they would be able to apply this to everyday uses in finding locations of the many different places they want to go. It also allows them to feel like they know where they are going even if they have never been there before. I could use this in one of my future math classes by having the students calculate the distances from different cities then showing them on this map just how far away the cities are from each other.

Today I uplaoded my resume to Google Docs and published it onto the web. Now anyone can see my resume because it is on the web and it is always accessible. Here is a link to My Resume

Todays assignment applies to teaching standard

3b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.

The students, peers, parents and community members can view my resume on the web, which allows them to see my qualifications, work experience, and learn a little about me. I can also use this to teach my students how to present their accomplishments to their future employers.

Simon's Calendar

Today I learned that I have my own calendar in google. We learned how to make changes to the calander and also learned how to share the calander publically. Here is a link to My Calendar. We also created our own website today using Google. Here is a link to my website.

This assignment applies to teaching standard

4d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

This allows students to view when their assignments are due and can allow teachers to keep the students up to date if they were to miss class for example. It can also help the teacher stay organized and stay on track so the students are not behind at the end of the year.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

1. This council is having a meeting in Dever on October 7-8 2010 to enchace teachers professional skills, knowledge, and career.
2. There will also be a conference in Baltimore on October 14-15, 2010 to provide two days of quality professional development.

3d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

I can use what I did today in my future to find when and where the next conferences to gather information in my teaching field. By going to these conferences I will better my teaching skills and learn new ways to teach my students.

Today we used our Diigo library to make a bookmark to a council in our teaching field which we found the next place and time this council is having a conference.

Excel spreadsheet #2

Today we used Excel to find Average scores for the students different scores, we also found the max, the min, and many other things. We also found the weight of the assignment, the test, and the project. In order to find the students averages for the after finding the weight of each assignment we used the Help Menu to find this function. We uploaded our spreadsheet to google docs so we will be able to access it whenever we need to. One very useful tool we used today in excel was the handle which allowed us to copy a fomula from one cell to many different cells. We used the "IF" function to determine what letter grade the student would get after their percentage was calculated. Here is a link to my Excel spreadsheet #2.

Todays assignment applies to Teaching Standard 3a.demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. For my major, being a math teacher, I can teach the students the functions I learned today and they can then apply them to their work in and out of the classroom.
