Webquest

Over the past 3 weeks we have worked on our webquest. Webquest is a great tool in the fact a teacher can manipulate it to create projects, reviews, quizes, and test for thier students. It is very efficient for a teacher because once the teacher has created a webquest the students have the task, proccess, and how they are going to be evaluated all in one place so there is no confusion.
Here is a link to my Webquest

The webquest applies to teaching standard

3a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.

Having a teacher create a webquest allows them to test the students on what they know and create a project for the students to learn more about a certain subject. It also allows the students to advance their experience with new technologies and researching based on what the teacher incorporates into the webquest.

Voki

Today we created a Voki and then costomized an avatar. We used this avatar to speak some of our educational philosophy. Here is a my Voki video

Get a Voki now!

Todays assignment addresses teaching standard

2a.design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

By using Voki in the classroom I could possibly attract the students attention by them hearing a different voice rather than mine but still presenting the information I want. This could also could be used as a tool to teach a lesson online without me having to explain it to them with me in the room.

Surveys and collecting data

Today we learned how to create web based forms such as a survey. When creating the survey there are 6 types of questions we can use. These 6 different types are text, paragragh text, mutiple choice, checkboxes, choose from a list, and scale. We also had a few of the students in our class take our survey and we learned how to view the results in the spreadsheet and the summary of the results showing bar charts, graphs etc. You can take the survey that I created by clicking here SURVEY  Here is a link to google docs forms to try it yourself. Also here is a link to the spreadsheet with the results from my survey.

New Free Tools

ISSUU is an online PDF viewer. It is a free tool that you can use to view books in a magazine format. This allows you to zoom on different parts of the page all without having carry a textbook around.

Prezi is a free web based tool that allows you to view presentations and create presentations. In Prezi you have one slide in which you put all your imformation and it zooms in on the different pieces of text and images on that slide. We also learned that in Prezi you should group your information so your not zooming all over the slide and making your audience motion sick. Here is a link to to PREZI
Here is my sample using Prezi

Jeopardy games

Today we learned different ways to review for a class by using Jeopardy on the web with Jeapardy Labs and also in powerpoint. Here is a link to Jeapardy Labs. Jeapardy Labs is basically text based compared to creating a jeopardy in powerpoint where we and inserting media and insert different graphics. By using powerpoint we are able to insert sounds and graphics to make our jeopardy game more fun and interesting to my students.
Todays activity relates to teaching standard

2c) customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.

I could use todays activity to help my students review for a test while keeping their full attention because they want to win the game. This can also be used to customize a Jeopardy game to catch my students attention by using a different approach then the normal "writing on the blackboard setting."

Animation in Powerpoint

This week we learned how to use many different types of animation in powerpoint. I learned how to make bullets exit my slide one by one which I though was very useful. I also learned how to do motion animation where we made a motion path with images from clipart. I put a picture into one of my slides then I made arrows and made the labels at the end of those arrows appear and disappear. I also learned how to create button trigger grouping which I could use to show one slide to my students ask them to fill in the blanks then click show answers and all the answers show on the slide.

What we learned this week relates to teaching standard
1a.) promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. This assignment would help a student's powerpoint stand out compared to others and also put animation to emphasize the student's creativity. I can use many of the things I learned this week to quiz my students in any subject that I teach and test their knowledge in powerpoint.

Here is a little video clip of some of the things I learned to do in powerpoint.
Unable to display content. Adobe Flash is required.

My Powerpoint

This week I worked on creating a powerpoint about College Football Statistics. The professor's outcomes for this assignment were "Student can create, download, upload, and archive a graphic image.Students will be able to publish presentations in a variety of formats. Students will be able to select appropriate digital formats for publishing." We used a website called Slideshare to upload our slideshow to the web. Here is a link to my PowerPoint
Here are some of the websites I recieved my information from:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics
http://www.footballbabble.com/football/college/facts/

This activity relates to teaching standard
1c) promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
It showed me that there are many differents tools to use to present information in a variety of ways. The students can learn ways to share information they find on the web to other srudents and their teachers in a unique way. This activity also gives the students the opportunity to add a creative touch to their work.

Map

In todays assignment everyone entered their addresses into a document where we shared our email addresses and then copied that document into a program that made a map of where everyone lives. The program that we copied the document into was called Batchgeo, this program then gave us our google map with everyones location.  Here is a link to the Google Map. which is also posted below.

Todays assignment applies to teaching standard

3a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.

If I taught this to my students they would be able to apply this to everyday uses in finding locations of the many different places they want to go. It also allows them to feel like they know where they are going even if they have never been there before. I could use this in one of my future math classes by having the students calculate the distances from different cities then showing them on this map just how far away the cities are from each other.

My Resume

Today I uplaoded my resume to Google Docs and published it onto the web. Now anyone can see my resume because it is on the web and it is always accessible. Here is a link to My Resume

Todays assignment applies to teaching standard

3b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.

The students, peers, parents and community members can view my resume on the web, which allows them to see my qualifications, work experience, and learn a little about me. I can also use this to teach my students how to present their accomplishments to their future employers.

Simon's Calendar

Today I learned that I have my own calendar in google. We learned how to make changes to the calander and also learned how to share the calander publically. Here is a link to My Calendar. We also created our own website today using Google. Here is a link to my website.

This assignment applies to teaching standard

4d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

This allows students to view when their assignments are due and can allow teachers to keep the students up to date if they were to miss class for example. It can also help the teacher stay organized and stay on track so the students are not behind at the end of the year.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

1. This council is having a meeting in Dever on October 7-8 2010 to enchace teachers professional skills, knowledge, and career.
2. There will also be a conference in Baltimore on October 14-15, 2010 to provide two days of quality professional development.

This activity applies to teaching standard

3d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

I can use what I did today in my future to find when and where the next conferences to gather information in my teaching field. By going to these conferences I will better my teaching skills and learn new ways to teach my students.

Today we used our Diigo library to make a bookmark to a council in our teaching field which we found the next place and time this council is having a conference.

Excel spreadsheet #2

Today we used Excel to find Average scores for the students different scores, we also found the max, the min, and many other things. We also found the weight of the assignment, the test, and the project. In order to find the students averages for the after finding the weight of each assignment we used the Help Menu to find this function. We uploaded our spreadsheet to google docs so we will be able to access it whenever we need to. One very useful tool we used today in excel was the handle which allowed us to copy a fomula from one cell to many different cells. We used the "IF" function to determine what letter grade the student would get after their percentage was calculated. Here is a link to my Excel spreadsheet #2.

Todays assignment applies to Teaching Standard 3a.demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. For my major, being a math teacher, I can teach the students the functions I learned today and they can then apply them to their work in and out of the classroom.

My Graphic

Today I showed the many different ways to save your work not only to a jump drive but also on the internet. This relates to ISTE standard 2b which says the student will develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. This helps the student to learn that they can save there work to many different places on the internet rather than have to rely on a jump drive. Physical storages are nice to have in the fact you can carry them with you when you go place but the weackness to physical storage is you can break or lose them. The nice part about virtual storage is there a many place to save your work and you will never lose it but you do have to have internet access to get to it.

Picassohead

Today we used Jing again to capture a self portrait that we created on another website. Here is a link to my self portrait My Picasso.

Using Jing

In todays class we learned how to use a program called Jing. We used Jing to capture an image and annotate the image. I chose an image of a motorcycle. Here is my link to that image Sport Bike.  This program is very useful because you can not only capture and image but you can also add text and drawings to the image for your benefit.

Image using snipping tool

We learned how to use the snipping tool today and I decided to snip a picture of a soccer player. This activity relates to ISTE standard 2a to incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. We used this standard by snipping a digital picture from google and posting the picture on my blog.

Post test blog

Well after taking the personality test it says Im a Guardian. I am somewhat surprised by this but there are some qualities that the Guardians have that I also have, such as humble and focused. Knowing that my pesonality is the Guardian type helps me to realize that I am capable of of leading groups and other teachers and principles can count on me to get done the task at hand. Taking this test relates to the ISTE teaching standard 1a. by using creative and innovative thinking to show what type of personality I have and use that to help me communicate with others.

Pre test blog

After reading about the 4 temperaments before taking the personality i believe that i am an idealist. I think this because it says they are enthusiastic and hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity which i feel describes me pretty well.
